Ehart and White featured at KVA galleries
The striking and memorable brilliance of rich island colors has been captured both in the realistic oils of Marshall White and in the flowing interplay of light in the fused glass creations of Karen Ehart.
The Kailua Village Artists cooperative group is featuring both artists at both galleries during August.
White's oil paintings emphasize the unique Hawaiian atmosphere surrounding his detailed images of beaches, landmarks, churches, lava flows, sunsets and moonlit ocean waves. In addition, portraiture by commission is a popular subject as his studied realism captures the persons character.
Ehart has brought the art of kiln - fired fused glass to a high level in her platters, bowls and jewelry. The shimmery, reflective glass is coated with reflective metal oxides called dichroic, fired first at 1,500 degrees, then detail painted with real gold and re - fired at 1,200 degrees, which gently sags the dish into a mold shape. Hawaiian petroglyphs as well as rhythmical iridescent abstract designs capture the viewer's eyes and imagination.
White, born and raised in Florida, moved to the Northwest and has a background in sign painting and typographic arts. He is self - taught, studying composition, design and color while working and was able to focus on his oil painting in 1990, exhibiting in the Port of Seattle's annual art show. He recently moved to Kailua - Kona with his wife and three children, and can sometimes be found painting on Alii Drive near the market place.
Ehart, raised in the Pacific Northwest, moved to Alabama where she owned a stained glass studio, designing and fabricating custom work as well as restoration. Her fusing and dichroic glass experience was gained with a major commercial art glass studio when she moved back to the Northwest. Ehart's move to Hawaii in 1992 inspired her interpretive creations of the petroglyphs and gave her the opportunity to explore the interplay of light and texture found in her larger glass pieces.
The KVA galleries are located in the lobby of the King Kameha - meha's Kona Beach Hotel and in the Ohana Keauhou Beach Resort, open every day, 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Two new members join Kailua Village Artists
The Kailua Village Artists cooperative group announces the acceptance of two local artists as full members who show their creations in the galleries.
An oil painter, Marshall White, is displaying his originals and prints in the Ohana Keauhou Beach Resort gallery, and quiltmaker, Roma Marks, has full quilts, small quilts and wall hangings in the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel gallery.
White is a Florida native who moved to the northwest in 1983 where he painted portraits and landscapes as a hobby. Now, in Hawaii with his wife and three children, he is capturing the wonders and beauty of the island with his oil paintings. After college his commercial experience included sign painting and typography.
Marks was born and raised in Idaho where she also graduated from the University of Idaho with a master's degree in home economics. Her travels with the Marines for 20 years introduced her to many cultures before managing her own business in the hotel industry. She moved to Hawaii in 1985, has two children and this fall will be teaching quilting at Viking Sewing Center.
